Single Origin: Ethiopia - Checho Bita
Roast: Light Roast
Tasting Notes: Cotton Candy Grapes & Violet
Noteworthy: Shade-Grown & Hand-Picked - all of the farms that provide coffee for this community lot are paid at or above 'fair trade' prices for their coffee. Additionally the coffees are grown in the shade of the local flora and fauna and are hand picked to ensure quality of coffee as well as to protect the environment of the area in which they are grown.
Brewing Method: Pour over, batch brew. As espresso it is finicky and requires knowledge of pulling espresso with light roasts.
Please specify grind preference in order notes at checkout.
Producer Dinkalem Adema owns several coffee sites around the Keffa region including a washing station where outgrowers from the surrounding Bita area bring their freshly picked cherries for purchase. His vision is to produce beautiful coffee personally and to provide a unique venue for neighbors and friends nearby to have more opportunities to sell their coffee. Most of the smallholders have less than 2 hectares and one hand picked crop yields less than one bag of ripe cherries at a time. By blending together coffees from the neighboring farms not only a variety of nuance is present in each cup, but showcase Keffa’s renowned flavor and terroir.
Ethiopian naturals are one of lead roaster Jason Thomas’ favorite coffees. They typically offer a fantastic fruity and jammy berry notes in the cup. We love this coffee for not only its great flavors but the story of it supporting small farms in the same geographic area. We appreciate their commitment to a fair wage for the farmers as well ecologically friendly farming practices.
